A Dutch student was yesterday given a suspended jail term after admitting to making a false police report about a snatch and grab incident.

Jeromimus Jacobus Van Ee walked into the Birkirkara police station two weeks ago and filed a report saying he was the victim of a snatch and grab incident. After being asked to reconsider his admission, as is standard procedure, the court moved on to pass judgement.

Taking into consideration his early guilty plea, Magistrate Giovanni Grixti jailed him for six months suspended for one year.

Police Inspector Michael Mallia prosecuted.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared for Mr Van Ee as legal aid.
