Hibs 4 Marsaxlokk 1

Valletta 1 Birkirkara 1

Valletta's efforts to keep up with Hibernians at the top of the Premier League suffered a blow today when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Birkirkara.

In an earlier game, Hibs beat Marsaxlokk 4-1.

The result leaves Hibs four points clear at the top although Valletta, in second, have a game in hand.

Andrew Cohen opened the scorechart for Hibs in the 12th minute of the first game but Christian Cassar got an equaliser for Maraxlokk 15 minutes later.

The second half went all Hibs' way. Alexis Mbong put Hibs back in the lead on the 60th minuite and Terence Scerri then scored twice - from the penalty spot in the 74th minute and then deep in injury time.

Valletta had the best possible start against Birkirkara with an 11th minute goal by Cleavon Frendo. But Shaun Bajada equalised for Birkirkara early in the second half and neither team was able to break the deadlock.
