On January 21, The Times published a letter of mine, accompanied by a photo, on the dangers in our roads after heavy rainfall and particularly pointing out traffic signs, as in the photo, that were literally waiting to fly off their pole. I do not expect ADT to have a list of all the dangers in our roads though in theory everything should be maintained. However, if a paper such as The Times points something out, one expects immediate action to be taken. Not to know may be acceptable. When one knows and does nothing about it then the non-action becomes almost criminal because we are talking about danger to the public.

Of course, as was expected no one on January 21 rushed to the site to see what needed to be done. The sign shown in the photo eventually did come off and at the time of writing was lying dangerously in the Salina Coast Road, a very important road in our system.

I find it difficult to understand how ADT could take such an attitude of nonchalance in such a dangerous situation. But then we should not be surprised at anything in this country. When will we ever learn? When will public officials become responsible for their action or non-action?
