Compleet IS SW 156
Bupa Luxol 121

(two legs - 85-56, 71-65)

Compleet, still unbeaten in all competitions this season, won both legs of the Louis Borg Cup final at the expense of former holders BUPA Luxol to collect their first honour of the season.

In the first leg, played in midweek, Luxol had strong rebounder Marko Matijevic missing and Compleet took advantage to dominate underneath the boards and cruise to a comfortable 85-56 win - an ideal platform ahead of the second leg.

The rivalry between these two teams knows no bounds and that, perhaps, led to a more balanced second leg yesterday.

Luxol had a difficult start but gradually improved to lead 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. With Dirk Schembri showing better form, Luxol held the upperhand and four minutes before the interval they led 27-26. Compleet had Omar Said disqualified for retaliation, but they still managed to change ends 34-29 in front.

Luxol did not give up hope but when forward Marco Mercieca lost his head and was disqualified for throwing the ball at the official, Compleet sensed a chance to extend their lead.

Before the last quarter got underway they led 58-48.

Luxol fought on to at least avoid defeat but to no avail as Compleet showed better qualities for a 71-65 win.

Hibs Medsea 133
Ergon Project Luxol 92

(two legs - 67-42, 66-50)

Hibs Medsea easily dethroned Louis Borg Cup holders Ergon Project Luxol. They were the best team all-round and made good use of their height superiority in the first leg to open a handsome lead before yesterday's decisive match.

Luxol matched Medsea in all quarters in the first leg's opening two sessions.

However, with Luxol's chief scorer Francesca Psaila Savona tiring out, Hibs relied on captain Lucienne Bezzina and pivot Joselle Cardona to put the issue beyond doubt for a 67-42 win.

Yesterday's second leg saw Luxol again having a good first two quarters as they trailed Medsea 26-24 at half-time.

But, Luxol sorely felt the absence of Psaila Savona and wilted to the pressure.

Hibs increased their lead to 43-33 ahead of the final quarter and with Luxol fading away Mario Tabone's team won 66-50.
