The cross at Xaghra square has been restored.
Crosses were erected in the main squares in the last decades of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century.
According to historians, crosses had two purposes - shepherds and goatherds were reminded that the Church prohibited the grazing of sheep and goats close to or upon graveyards and people strolling by were reminded to recite a prayer for the departed.
The work on the Xaghra cross was financed by Xaghra council.
