An adult was killed and another wounded in a shooting in a parking lot outside a school in the northern Norwegian town of Tromsoe, Norwegian police said.

"Only these two people were involved, we are not looking for an attacker," police officer Kurt Pettersen said on Norwegian TV 2 news.

"One person has been confirmed dead, one has been hospitalised."

He said one of the casualties was a man and the other a woman, but he did not say who had been killed, and said the background to the shooting was not clear.

Commercial broadcaster TV2 news said the woman was killed and man wounded, but there was no official confirmation.
