An open-minded political party

Yves Calì (January 20) should refrain from spreading blatant untruths about Alternattiva Demokratika.

Mr Calì had the temerity to write that "Arnold Cassola allowed himself to be carried around in triumph by PL supporters for having denied the PN their third MEP seat (in 2004)".

In the 2004 European Parliament elections, the PN lost its third MEP seat on the night between Monday and Tuesday, nearly on the last count.

Prof. Cassola was instead carried shoulder high by the AD supporters on the night between Sunday and Monday, 24 hours earlier, when the result of his first count votes (23,000) was announced.

As for AD being "the PL's second division team", it is obvious that, with his attitude, Mr Calì has no idea of what it means to be an open-minded political party that puts the interests of the country before that of the party.

Mr Calì should maybe remember what happened during the 2003 election: AD then asked its supporters to vote for PN on first count, and give only subsequent preferences to AD, in order to ensure that the Maltese and Gozitans got into Europe.
