Gearing up for the marathon

Local long-distance runners are gearing up for the Land Rover Malta Marathon, this year scheduled to take place on March 1.

The Malta Marathon has established itself as the main highlight of the local athletics annual calendar and rightly so, given that it attracts over 1,000 runners.

Far too often, however, the media spotlight falls on those who finish the marathon and half-marathon in the leading positions when, in reality, anyone who manages to complete the distance should be rewarded for the effort put in. This is what www.maltaathletics.com will be trying to do.

Starting from this week, a diary of five ordinary athletes who are planning to do either the full or the half marathon has been launched.

How will it work?

Every Wednesday there will be an update of how every athlete is doing, the challenges and obstacles they have to face each week in the lead-up to the big day.

So, if you intend to take part in the marathon, have an interest in running or are merely curious about how people prepare for such an event, log on to www.maltaathletics.com to see how the likes Morgan Brimmer, Cyprian Dalli, Michael Grima, Paul Grima and Tonio Privitelli are going about their preparations for the race.
