Statue of St Peter of Alcantara

The statue is attributed to Ċensu Decondia. It is a life-size franka stone statue of St Peter of Alcantara at Triq San Ġwann c/w Triq San Pawl and is depicted with arms held open and supporting a cross with his right hand.

He is kneeling on a rock (or cloud) around which is a scroll with Amirabilis Rex written on it. The statue stands on a column embedded between two pilasters, topped by a cornice. At the front of the column is a space where a rectangular plaque was once located, but is now missing.

Mepa scheduled the statue of St Peter of Alcantra as a Grade 1 national monument as per Government Notice number 276/08 in the Government Gazette dated March 28.
