The Malta Transport Authority suspended the licence of three taxi drivers for a month for not using a taxi meter.

The decision was taken following random inspections carried out by the transport regulator's enforcement unit.

The unit regularly carries out such checks to enforce the use of the meters and last year it reported 18 drivers for not using them and another two for not having one installed in their taxis.

The use of taxi meters, sealed and calibrated annually, is legally required.
