Persistent rain demolished rubble walls in Gharghur, Marsaxlokk and Siggiewi and caused misery to drivers today.

The most serious incident attributed to the rain was a traffic accident in Floriana where a traffic policeman was critically injured when his motorcycle skidded and crashed into an electricity pole near the Excelsior Hotel (see separate report and video).

At Sta Lucija, five cars were involved in collision in the afternoon. (See separate story). A number of collisions also took place in Mdina Road, Qormi, after a diesel spill. No one was injured.

Several roads were flooded, notably in Birkirkara and Msida, causing cars to stall. Members of the Civil Protection Department were at hand to help drivers and clear debris from the roads, where needed.

Motorists also reported deep potholes which caused punctures at Tal-Balal.
