Jurors in the trial of David Schembri, 32, who is accused of the murder of Josette Scicluna in 2004, started deliberating this morning.

Ms Scicluna, Mr Schembri’s former girlfriend and mother of his then seven-year-old daughter, was killed in a violent attack in May 2004, when Mr Schembri allegedly stabbed her to death in her San Ġwann apartment, which he got into after shooting the door down. Ms Scicluna had been stabbed 47 times.

The couple’s daughter witnessed the first part of the alleged attack.

A verdict is expected this afternoon.
