ProMinent, a German-based multinational which produces water pumps and water treatment plants, will be investing €5m on an expansion of its factory in Bulebel, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi was told during a tour of the company's headquarters in Stuttgart today.

Company officials explained that the operation in Malta is the company's second biggest and the company plans to transfer its assembly line of electronic state-of-the-art parts from Germany to Malta.

Dr Gonzi also visited Heidelberg University, where he discussed possible cooperation in areas such as research on solar energy.

He is due to return to Malta later today at the end of his three-day visit which also saw him meet Chancellor Angela Merkel.
