Sharon Ellul Bonici, the former No2EU campaigner, has been accepted by Labour leader Joseph Muscat and Labour's executive as a contestant in the June MEP elections.

Ms Ellul Bonici tried to contest the MEP elections in 2004 on the Labour ticket but had her bid turned down by the party's vigilance board. Back then it was reported that declarations made by Ms Ellul Bonici that the Labour Party (PL) should join the euro-sceptic EDD grouping was one of the main reasons for having her bid to contest with Labour turned down.

In front of the vigilance board Ms Ellul Bonici was represented by Labour MP, now PL deputy leader, Anġlu Farrugia.

Strangely enough, Ms Ellul Bonici has now been accepted to contest the MEP elections on the PL ticket. What brought about this change of heart is curious and interesting.
