The Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club (VLTC) have just held their annual Junior Open which coincides with the children's Christmas holidays.
This ranking event, held under the auspices of the Malta Tennis Federation, attracted no fewer than 56 players who competed in a series of events ranging from U-10 to U-16.
The U-10 girls singles was won by Katrina Sammut with Bettina Booker the runner-up while the boys' title went to Timmy Aquilina. He beat Benjamin Farrugia in the final.
In the U-12 category, the girls singles was won by Maria Giorgia Farrugia Sacco. Alexia Cassar was second. Mark Schranz beat Timmy Aquilina in the boys U-12 final.
Brenda Galea staved off the challenge offered by Alexia Valenzia in the girls' U-14 final 6-3 6-3. Patrick Georgiev beat Bernard Cassar Torregiani in the boys' final.
Galea also emerged winner in the girls U-16 singles event.
This time, she beat Klara Sitarova in the decisive match. Matthew Booker won the boys U-16 event, defeating Chris Abdelaghani 6-3 6-1 in the final.
