'Good progress' in MUT, ministry meeting
The Malta Union of Teachers yesterday met the Education Ministry to discuss all supply categories and the implementation of clauses in the reform agreement on kindergarten assistants and learning support assistants.
The union said substantial progress was made during the three-hour meeting and another has been scheduled for next week.
Meanwhile, the MUT said it was waiting for clarifications from the Management and Personnel Office and other documentation from the Education Directorates.
It said a draft document was already being discussed in view of a final settlement.
Last Friday the union ordered a two-hour strike by kindergarten assistants and learning support assistants, following directives issued a week earlier to protest over the fact that the reform agreement was not being fully observed.
The ministry had issued a circular telling hundreds of parents that Friday was a normal school day, even though the MUT told parents they should take their children to school two hours late.

"Good progress" - why not simply give supply teachers a warrant and give them the same conditions as normal teachers ?
This attitude by MUT is totally disgusting, and an insult to the teachers and the profession it is meant to represent. IT's only a way of boosting membership figures by including supply teachers and LSA's.
I reiterate my argument - is there ever a supply doctor, or lawyer ? No. Then why a suply teacher ?
