Buffer zones for all historical buildings

The recent article (January 15) regarding yet another threat to an outstanding heritage site highlights the situation owners of historic houses are enduring due to encroaching development.

Villa Barbaro is merely the tip of the iceberg and would appear to be fortunate in that the owner was quick on the mark in launching his campaign. It is now time for Mepa to follow the courageous decision taken in establishing the buffer zone for Villa Bologna, by undertaking the same exercise with the help of suitably qualified people, in singling out all of the other historical buildings of deserving quality and surrounding them with a protective buffer zone.

I wish every success to Marquis Antony Cremona-Barbaro in protecting Villa Barbaro and obtaining the necessary safeguards from the regulating authority.
