Diamond's brace floors Celtic

Zander Diamond scored twice in three second-half minutes to secure Aberdeen an impressive 4-2 win over Celtic in an exciting Scottish Premier League clash at Pittodrie yesterday.

Gary McDonald put Aberdeen 1-0 up with a header on 24 minutes but Scott Brown equalised for Celtic a minute later.

Aberdeen restored their lead with a clinical finish by Stuart Duff after 31 minutes before Scott McDonald headed his side back level after the break.

However, Diamond's double, both headers from Charlie Mulgrew deliveries, gave the Dons their first win over Celtic at Pittodrie since 2001.

In the day's other game, Motherwell extended their positive run after coasting to a shock 4-0 win over Dundee United.

United had hopes of gaining three points to strengthen their case for holding on to third place this season but they were instead left reeling.

Marc Fitzpatrick, Maros Klimpl, David Clarkson and Chris Porter were on target to give Motherwell a comprehensive victory.

Motherwell were as low as joint-bottom of the Scottish Premier League earlier this season but three wins from their last four games have propelled them to a safer, mid-table position.

On Saturday, Rangers cut Celtic's lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League to two points after coming from behind to beat Falkirk 3-1 at Ibrox.
