The Israeli ambassador to Malta, Ambassador Gideon Meir tells The Sunday Times in an interview published today that the world does not care when Israeli people are being attacked and killed. In a candid interview with Herman Grech, Mr Meir says the international community is adopting a case of double standards where the Israeli and Palestinian people are concerned.
"I’m very cynical about the world because the world is very cynical about me. You guys don’t care when our people are being attacked and killed. There’s a lot of hypocrisy," he says.
He said that for the past eight years, over 9,200 rockets and missiles were fired into Israel. Since the international community persisted in turning a blind eye, Israel had no choice but to act in self defence and launch an offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The Rome-based ambassador also speaks of what he describes as the "biased" media and of Malta's relations with Israel. Watch excerpts of the video above. Read the entire interview in today's edition of The Sunday Times.
