MUT 's position on proposed reform

The Malta Union of Teachers is carrying out consultation meetings with all educators, especially with its grassroots, regarding the proposed reform on the transition from primary to secondary schools. The MUT wants to first listen attentively to what teachers have to say. These are, after all, the people who come in contact with students on a daily basis. The MUT has held an ad hoc council meeting to discuss this delicate issue. Various meetings are also being held at the Teachers' Institute for Educators from all sectors. It is envisaged that the MUT will give its official reaction by the end of this month.

There are obvious pros and cons to what is being proposed by the government. Here we are talking about the future of our students and the MUT will, in due time, issue an objective evaluation of the proposed transition's effect on the education system, as well as its impact on the teaching profession.
