IHS courses
People often associate health and safety with dangerous tasks. As a result, we often neglect the implications of stress and its effects on the health of workers.
The Foundation Certificate in Stress Awareness, being offered by the Institute of Health and Safety (IHS), is a qualification that will provide candidates with an overview of stress as an occupational health hazard. It will help them identify basic workplace stressors and allow them to develop basic controls. The course will be held on January 27.
Another Scaffolding course will be held on February 2, 5, 11 and 26. Over the years, scaffolds have been extensively used in construction sites, particularly in Malta. As a result, we consider the erection of a scaffold as a routine task and overlook the importance of the various risk control measures that should be taken when setting up and using the structure.
'Risk assessment principles and practice' will be held on February 25. Employers and the self-employed have a legal duty to assess any hazards by carrying out a risk assessment for their workplace.
It is also the duty of employers to make sure that people carrying out the risk assessment are competent and confident enough to use this important health and safety tool.
