US Ambassador's term ends on February 6
The term of office of the popular US Ambassador Molly Bordonaro ends on February 6 although she plans to return to Malta often.
Mrs Bordonaro expressed her deepest regards for Malta and the Maltese people, adding that her family had truly come to think of Malta as their home.
"The past three and a half years have brought a strengthening of the relationship between our two countries," she said.
She emphasised that historical agreements such as the double taxation accord and the visa waiver programme led to a better relationship that will continue to develop increased commercial trade and investment and also boost cooperation on issues important to both countries.
Mrs Bordonaro was instrumental in setting up the permanent refugee resettlement programme of irregular migrants to the US and assisting in the launch of Malta's state-of-the-art search and rescue training centre. She also secured US funding for the construction of a new Customs warehouse at the Freeport and assisted the University of Malta to establish links with US institutions.
Deputy Chief of Mission Jason Davis will become Chargé d'Affaires on Mrs Bordonaro's departure.

Good Job and God Bless America. When you get back please try to convince someone in the new admistration or a high powered Republican to take more ilegal immigrants from Malta. As the illegals don't have proper housing an amenities in Malta. We the U.S.A can afford to take all 12,000 of them. Most have freinds and family here in America to sponser them. PLEASE.

Some Diplomats stand out more than others and Ambassador Bordonaro has certainly stood out and extended the American hand of friendship to Maltese People like no other US Diplomat before her !
She very soon became an honorary member of the extended Maltese Family.
Thank you and Good Luck Dear Molly!

Molly Bordonaro is by far, the best US Ambassador Malta has had for a very long time and I have known them all. Dedicated to obtaining the best relations she could between our two countries, Ms Bordonaro also demonstrated effciency and an unequalled ability to get things done. In the diplomatic world nothing happens with speed. Discussions take a long time and the exchanges that go on between Ministries and Embassies and between Embassies and ,in this case, the State Department can be exhausting and very time consuming, That nothwithstanding , in the relatively short time that she has been Ambassador, Molly Bordonaro achieved very significant results for both countries but especially for Malta. Thankyou Molly for being so goofd at honouring your responsibilities as Ambassador and at the same time for bring such a charming representative of the US. Malta will remain indebted to you. To you, to Matt and the Children , may your hearts' desires be fulfilled. Godspeed on the 6th. We shall truly miss you all.
