Irregular migration affecting social fabric
The record number of arrival of irregular immigrants this year has put extreme pressure on the accommodation capabilities as well as the social fabric of the Maltese islands, Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said this morning.
Exchanging New Year greetings with the diplomatic corps, Dr Borg said that 2,700 immigrants landed in Malta this year compared to 1,700 last year.
The ministers said that intensified efforts wererequired to combat the illegal activities of unscrupulous traffickers who exploited the plight of fellow human beings for their own gain.
"It is also essential that EU member states give their full support to Frontex in order to make the patrolling of the sea borders more effective."
Malta, the minister said, welcomed the adoption of the European Pact on Immigration and Asylum and was particularly satisfied that the EU was recognising the need for effective solidarity and burden sharing with member states like Malta, which were faced with specific and disproportionate pressures on their national asylum systems.
"It is now important to ensure that the momentum built over the last months is maintained in 2009 aimed at implementing the key provisions of the Pact as soon as possible," he said.

@Louise Vella. Freedom of movement for citizens of all 27 member States you say. Is this a Freudian slip or are you just jumping the gun?
@Martin Gauci. We have enough (and more) in the northern countries thank you very much. Would you repair a punctured type with chewing-gum?
The reality is that, millions (and millions in waiting) have jumped onto the exodus bandwagon. This was born of the principle 'we have been hard-done by, there are green pastures over there, let us go and grap what we can while we can. We will claim that we are coming as economic migrants. They will believe us. Economic migration is a phenomenon well known in the West. While we are educating our children to be tomorrow's tax-paying professionals/workers etc. we can support ourselves with the various governments helping us along. We will not integrate though. We cannot even if we wanted to. That is not part of our agenda. Our agenda will spread out as time goes by. And keep a low profile. You do not want anyone onto your agenda. Certainly, you do not want your agenda to be tainted by fanciful western ideas. We don't want that'.

Stop this 'irregular' euphemism. They're illegal. Fullstop. We don't call thieves 'irregular borrowers'.

Don't worry pal.
We shall give the political parties and candidates our answer on our vote after we have voted for them.
That is the only way they understand, so everyone should go to vote and then write his/her message on the ballot paper.

@ Tonio Borg
The only "momentum" that has been built over the past 12 months was by the illegal immigrants, who flocked to our shores by their thousands!
Oh and is anybody realising that, while the political parties have done nothing to curb this problem over the past six months, NOW there is an election up for grabs and they are spouting the same old rhetoric that they will never fulfil?

Let's have freedom of movement for all citizens of the 27 member states of the EU.
We shall accept the others if we need them, when we need them. And not when dictated to by UNHCR.

The best solution would be to give these irregular / illegal immigrants a regular pass and send ALL off to the North European Countries within the EU, and starting off with the present presidency, the Czech Republic. Will will then see some reaction from the other EU countries.

It is clear by now that the ultimate aim of the Eu is to destroy national identities. This will make it far easier for its vassals to accept the Brussels diktat unquestionably. One way to achieve this aim is to dilute the indigenous population with alien stock.
So let us stop turning to the EU to put an end to illegal immigration. It is against its social policy. We must do what we have to do alone, and we can do it. Those who criticise shall be told to lead by example and accept proportionate numbers of these people.

Stop calling them irregular Tonio.
They are simply ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who, as your leader Gonzipn said, are INVADING OUR country and you are sitting pretty doing absolutely NOTHING to REPATRIATE them.
Get them out of here because we are fed up to our noses with them and with Gonzipn.

Does Prime Minister Gonzi agree that "The record number of arrival of irregular immigrants this year has put extreme pressure on the accommodation capabilities as well as the social fabric of the Maltese islands"?
If he does, he should do something to protect the social fabric of the Maltese islands.

Dr.Borg I would like to tell you that they are not irregular immigants they illegal immigrants. Is a bank robber an irregular customer or a criminal. Why don't we start calling bank robbers irregular customers. Especially when they committ bank robberries due to economic hardship. No matter how you cover the word illegal it still is an illegal act.
We know how many came in 2007. We know how many came in 2008.We all ready know how many came in 2009. We know all that. Thanks to the Times not you..What we don't know is.WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET TOUGH WITH THE EU?? End of 2009, 2010, 2011, 2112. After 2012 that you guys are out of Castille. Can you tell us when is the government going to get tough with the EU??

Insomma the usual bla bla bla, in the mean time our country will keep getting invaded and to add insult to injury us tax payers will have to fork out more in order to foot the bill for these arrivals old and new.
Whilst money does come and go one cannot say the same for this tiny gem in the Med.

In stating the obvious, ie that 'The record number of arrival of irregular immigrants this year has put extreme pressure on the accommodation capabilities as well as the social fabric of the Maltese islands', was the Foreign Minister seeking permission from the European commision to ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING to stop the invasion? Or was he once again pleading with them to solve the problem for Malta?
The fact is the the other EU countries, especially the new Presidency, do not care what happens to Malta. It is the government of Malta that has to act NOW before it is too late, to protect the national interest and stop the invasion. Words alone will not get us out of this mess.

Any other self-respecting government would have resigned over this dismal failure. We are sick of hearing words, words, words.
