Uzbeki admits string of thefts

What was this chap doing in Malta? An Uzbeki??? We have people coming to Malta from every part of the world. Dr Gonzi and CMB are clearly presiding over an immigration system which is in tatters and in utter chaos. This individual is not an EU citizen and I question his immigration status straight away. Was he a student under the pretence of studying English in Malta? In which case how did he qualify? Can CMB explain please?

By forced labour I didn't mean crushing rocks with sledge hammers, but doing some work the payment for which will make good for the thefts he committed.

Why should he be chucked out of the country?
He should not be here in the first place.
What should an Uzbecki be doing in Malta?
Thefts for more than 3 months. How long do tourists stay.
Why should we become the dumping ground of all criminals from all countries?
And is Malta a free for all where anyone can come and do what they like?
Should not be but it may appear so by the number of illegal immigrats being allowed to remain here after entering illegally.
So if we cansend back an Uzbecki, why shouldn't we send back other illegal immigrats from wherever they come?
I also include as illegal immigrats those who overstay their visa.

So since this guy is going to be deported when his jail sentence ends, why aren't the myriad Libyans, Somalis, Tunisians, etc deported after committing similar crimes?

We don't need, nor want, anything to do with these people.

actually he does not owe us anything.

He owe from: 'Ryan's Pub, Ye olde Keg and Heaven in Paceville, Texan Turkish Restaurant in Msida, Luxol Club in St Andrews and Aroma Confectionery in San Gwann'.

And i believe he is serving 2 years for that.

Do you hear yourself? Or you just think aloud?

@I GALEA yes it states that after he done his 2 years in prison he will be deported back to his country, though i dont agree why should he serve 2 years in MALTESE prison . as it is not enoughthat he done theft now we have to feed him and keep him.

why is everyone so bent on chucking everyone out of the country?

michael pace - it is normal for a person to be imprisoned in the country where the crime and court sessions take place. to be fair, Maltese people committing crimes in other countries are imprisoned in those countries, not sent to Malta.

Forced labour mayhave been abolished but community service has not. he should be made to give community service and then expelled from the country. at least that way he would have repaid some of the dept he owes us.

forced labour has been abolised many years ago. And yes this person should serve a prison sentence even if this entails expenses, otherwise if we had just to deport every foreignor for committing a crime we would have them queing up to enter malta do their thing and get a free air ticket for home.

How long has this gentleman been here? Can he be rehabilitated?These crimes of theft have been going on for the laST 3 MONTHS .(so he says) Does he steal from everywhere he goes? Does he have a job or is he a tourist?(who would want to hire him?) Should he be deported? (or does he have permanent status here?)Is prison providing him with FOOD, ROOM and Board for the next 2 years?

Will he be made to forcefully work in prison so that with the money earned which should be kept by the prison authorities he will repay what he stole and then expelled for life once he serves his sentence?

Why do we no longer hear that the police have requested that the person be expelled from Malta after serving his/her sentence?

Can someone please explain what an Uzbeki was doing in Malta since at least last September?!? Tourists don't stay that long. Was he studying here? WORKING perhaps? In which case, what can he do that a Maltese can't?
We now apparently have the pleasure of lodging him for free for a couple of years.
