Uzbeki admits string of thefts

A 22-year-old man from Uzbekistan has been jailed for two years after admitting in court this morning to stealing more than €5,000 in cash and cigarettes from a number of outlets between September 23 last year and January 5, this year.

Frey Toshboev, admitted stealing from Ryan's Pub, Ye olde Keg and Heaven in Paceville, Texan Turkish Restaurant in Msida, Luxol Club in St Andrews and Aroma Confectionery in San Gwann.

In handing down sentence, Magistrate Padovani said she took into consideration the series of crimes and the amounts, adding that she did not believe that this was one of the pranks that youngsters did as part of the folly of youth. Indeed, these were serious crimes.

The man will be deported once he completes his prison term,
