US ambassador's term to end on Feb 6
US Ambassador Molly Bordonaro said today that her term as ambassador will close on February 6 and that she and her family will be returning to the United States.
In a statement, Ambassador Bordonaro expressed her deepest regards to Malta and the Maltese people, stating that her family has truly come to think of Malta as their home. She also expressed thanks to the Government of Malta.
“The past three and a half years have brought a strengthening of the relationship between our two countries. Historical agreements such as the Double Taxation Agreement and the Visa Waiver Program have led to a better relationship that will continue to develop increased commercial trade and investment and cooperation on mutually important issues.”
The Embassy said that some of the highlights during Ambassador Bordonaro’s term, in addition to the Double Taxation Agreement and the US Visa Waiver Program, included the permanent Refugee Resettlement Program of irregular migrants to the United States; helping to launch Malta’s state of art Search and Rescue Training Center; funding the construction of a new Customs warehouse at the Freeport; assisting the University of Malta to establish greater links with the US including two new joint degree programs with US universities; expanding the Embassy’s commercial section to focus on expanding US trade and investment in Malta; contributing to the creation of a new Ta’ Qali Adventure Park for families; and increasing cooperation on Mediterranean security issues through additional training and agreements with the Government and Armed Forces of Malta.
The ambassador's term also saw the embassy concluding plans and starting the construction of a new embassy building at Ta' Qali.
Mrs Bordonaro said she intended to return to Malta often.
Following Ambassador Bordonaro’s departure, Deputy Chief of Mission Jason Davis will become the U.S. Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires.

Dear Ambassador Bordonaro, you have made your country proud on our tiny island. you surely have been one of the best representatives of your country. I' m sure it hasn't been easy for you with so much negativeness clouding America's international relations but with your goodwill you still managed to bring out the positive. One incident that puts a smile on my face was last October I happened to be driving past your residence I saw a large crowd of children dressed up for halloween entering your home. Thank you for all the work that you have done and best wishes for you and your family.

Thanks to USA - PN Govt relations, Maltese people had to sacrifice another piece of land in Ta' Qali. We also gave USA an archeological monument in that area, which we inherited from our ancestors.
Now we have to apply within Embassy to view. Funny eh!
Thanks Ms Bordanaro, Well done in this

Some Diplomats stand out more than others and Ambassador Bordonaro has certainly stood out and extended the American hand of friendship to Maltese People like no other US Diplomat before her !
She very soon became an honorary member of the extended Maltese Family.
Thank you and Good Luck Molly!

A lovely family woman that has done wonders for the USA/Malta relations . Here's hoping as I am sure she will , that as her previous peers she will now also be an ambassador for our Island . I do hope that she will return to Malta with her family as a very welcome visitor . All I have spoken to about her agree that she has been taken into the Maltese heart . God Bless You & Your Family Ms Bordonaro.

That's a pity.
She's a wonderful woman, with an excellent approach. I've heard that she is also a woman of integrity and substance, and a lot was achieved in these 3.5 years.
We'll miss her!
