The police have found nothing irregular with 21 of the unmarked cars found in two huts at Tarġa Gap, Mosta three months ago although some doubts about another remain.

The 22 cars had been found accidentally in a raid made during enforcement action by the Government Property Division (GPD) late last month. The raid formed part of a campaign launched by the GPD against the illegal encroachment of public land. Eviction notices had been posted on buildings taken over by squatters along the Victoria Lines, limits of Mġarr, and also near Tarġa Gap in Mosta.

When Land Department officials went to the area to enforce their notices they were stunned to find the dusty cars locked up in two of the illegally-occupied Nissen huts there.

The police eventually traced the owner of the huts through the only four number plates found on two cars. He immediately told the police the cars belonged to him, a statement later confirmed through further investigation.

The origins of one vehicle remain uncertain as no documentation is available, sources said.
