Three former winners among Eurosong finalists
Three former winners of the Malta Song for Europe contest have qualified for the finals of this year's contest and are thus hoping to make a return to the Eurovision Song Contest.
They are Chiara, Malta’s most successful Eurovision participant, Miriam Christine and Georgina.
The Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Russia, in May.
Unlike previous years, contestants at Eurosong 2009 were this time only allowed to submit one song, to allow space for more artists to compete in the final to be held on February 7, at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre, Ta’ Qali.
The event is sponsored by Go and Hamilton Travel.
The following are the 20 songs that have made it to next month’s finals. The list – which starts with the name of the song, singer/group, composer and author – does not reflect the order they will perform:

Who cares about this Euro Junk!? I cannot believe the obsession with this event.
If this event is to continue then they should at least make it a rule that all entries are in the Language of their respective countries. I thought people were proud of their language - or is that rhetoric only when it comes to official languages in the EU so we can create more bureaucrats?

The organisers should concentrate on a complete package ESPESIALLY a good show on the night of the eurofestival. Vodka was a good song but looked awe full in the night of the finals!! That’s what people vote for after all....... lousy presentations are no good no matter how good the song sounds on a CD..............

The organizers should change the name from Eurovision Song Contest to Easternvision Song Contest as i am 100% sure that another eastern country is gonna win this edition again. It's wide open now and everyone knows that these countries exchange votes for each other during the voting.

@ Christopher Mamo - No actually my arguement is that since it is a song contest, Malta should choose the best song and not the best artist. Therefore the allowance of only one song per artist is idiotic.

Why not promote the Maltese language, Malti, in such an international contest ? Is it allowed ? It is a European contest afterall, it would make sense to watch singers perform in their native language, that means all European languages. Well, I guess, this is not a new idea, but why not, I dare to ask !!!

Another show of hailing mediocrity on to a high culture stage! Whilst our opera house lays dormant in ruins waiting to be turned into a tejatrin of politics,our very cultured individuals have to strive with their own expense to demonstrate their abilities which at the end those are the very once who deserves an artistic merit!

Maltasong is a on the right path to success, at least the first steps look good, although there is still a lot missing.
The contestants are allowed to submit one song only. This in fact allows more space for other artists.
But composers and writers can still submit more than one song.
So, Maltasong stopped half way again.
Composers and writers should also be allowed to submit one song only.
Space for more artists (singers) is being granted, but not for more composers and writers.
This is unfair.
Real variety, diversity, multifariousness will still be missing at the Festival.
Maybe next year Maltasong will do the second step.
Anyway, good luck to all participants. May the best package win.
Any may this choice be the right one for the big night(s) in Russia.

from the list of contestants...its very obvious chiaras song,has a great leap above the rest...she deserves a third time...whos knows,after coming 3rd and 2nd,1st place is not out of her reach....forza chiara........numero uno....

why so pessimistic? The Malta Song for Europe has helped many people reveal their talent to us. Some may not be so have been successful, but I'm grateful that people with talent have the opportunity to be seen in this contest.
Issa how people react to these songwriters/composers/singers is an entirely different story. some may be unappreciated (hint: swedish idol...), or deemed as "horrible" and tasteless, while others may be overrated, applauded, or given the appreciation they deserve.
i'm looking forward to see what this years contestants have to offer.

There we blow again...same foreboding wording,waste of time in an exercise of pure idiocy.When will we learn...naturally all interested benefit one way or other and this circle have a way of circling no matter who is in Government considering that the political scene in Malta is one Big Circle of a Circus!The winning song should be entitled WASTE THE WHITEWASH AWAY and there will be NOTHING left...literally!
In dire times for our economy when most fellow countrymen are battling it out to survive day in day out,we get immediate salary rises for our MANGA e PASSEGIA [ MPs for short ],rise in the Pensions for our EMERITI MPs,and the people in the doldrums have to be regaled in a stupid Contest.
Make our Eurovision Contestants sit for a tough examination about the European Community and you`ll see how the generous souls that get involved all back off..but that is what our MPs want: no questioning of the many pervading ills that pregnate our isle:but get down to a vital issue and Silence is the reaction - LET IGNORANCE REIGN SUPREME !
