Teenager suffers burns

A teenage girl was seriously injured and a baby suffered smoke inhalation in a blaze at a private residence apparently caused by a fireplace.

The police said the incident took place yesterday evening at Triq is-Serkin, Marsa.

The police said the 16-year-old girl suffered serious burns, allegedly from the fireplace and is being treated at Mater Dei Hospital.

The baby was treated for smoke inhalation.

No damage was caused to the house.

Magistrate Michael Mallia is heading an inquiry.
