A 16-year-old girl suffered serious burns from a fireplace at a residence in Serkin Street, Marsa, yesterday afternoon. A baby who was in the same room was also taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The police said they received a report that a person was lying injured at a residence at about 5 p.m. When they went to investigate they found that a girl was "allegedly" burnt by flames from the fireplace.
An ambulance rushed the girl to Mater Dei Hospital where she was found to be suffering injuries of a grievous nature. No damage was caused to the residence.
Magistrate Michael Mallia appointed a team of court experts to help in an inquiry.
The police are investigating the incident.
