MEPA and the Government Property Division have launched an operation to demolish illegal structures and remove illegally dumped material in the countryside at Selmun.

A spokesman for MEPA said the operation includes the demolition of some eight rooms and the filling-in of an illegally excavated reservoir.

Workers are also removing illegal gates, walls, and heavy material dumped in the area, including old cars.

The work is being carried out by workers employed by a private contractor and is concentrated on the area between Selmun Palace and Fort Campbell. Most of the area is government-owned property.

The work is expected to continue for some days.
