Back in 2006 Dr Edward de Bono, the internationally celebrated, leading proponent of creative thinking and creator of the concept ‘Lateral Thinking’, conceived of the symphony to reflect and celebrate the entire ‘new idea’ process. Enthused by the concept and determined to see it become a reality, Dr de Bono took it upon himself to commission the acclaimed Maltese composer Charles Camilleri to create the symphony – Camilleri’s only symphony in a long and distinguished musical career which sadly came to an end when he passed away on 3rd January 2009 at the age of 77. The resultant rich, emotive and complex work is structured in three parts and reflects the germination, birth pangs, struggle, acceptance and success of an idea.
