Camilleri - a source of artistic inspiration

Tanya Bayona, writes:
I will always remember Charles as a good friend and an artistic inspiration in my life. I had the good fortune of meeting Charles in the late 1980s at the University and we immediately struck a warm professional rapport. As a choreographer, it was a very crucial time as I was developing, maturing and searching for new horizons. Charles's music opened new pathways musically and artistically.

Our collaboration soon became a constant flow of inspiration which resulted in the production of several ballets - Unum Deum, Qolla, Requiem for the Massacred, The Elements, and Galaxies. My company performed these works at local and international festivals in France and Russia with great success.

Charles and I would spend hours working together on the musical interpretation in his studio at San Pawl tat-Targa. He was so kind and patient. His face would light up when I found the right movement. He taught me so much musically.

I feel honoured and privileged to have worked with such a great Maltese composer and musician.

May he live on in our hearts and mind and may his music continue to be a source of inspiration to choreographers, composers and to many people around the world.

My sincere condolences go to Doris and his family.
