Patching up of roads

The Malta Transport Authority is patching up various roads after the recent rainfall exposed numerous potholes.

Works will be carried out in Birkirkara, Floriana and Ta' Xbiex over the coming days.

If everyone who has suffered and had to foot the bill for damage to tyres or suspension were to claim for damages or send the bill to those responsible for maintaining the roads in safe condition, things might possibly change!!!

Are we supposed to be impressed? This article shouldn't even be a news item. Maintaining the roads should be a matter of course, NOT a special occasion.

The 'new' Zebbug - Rabat road is cracking up at the begining heading to Zebbug just after you pass the roundabout which leads to Rabat / Ta Qali / Attard. I guess there should be no excuses for that right?

In foreign countries patching is done regularly. If it is done properly there's nothing wrong.

It's positively shameful how 'due to rainfall' - roads are jammed with stalled traffic, potholes appear and take forever to be fixed, football games are cancelled, workers effecting repairs in the roads stop. Honestly, how do north Europeans get anything done with their almost constant rainfall? And why are their roads in immaculate condition regardless? Could it be that we use inferior quality materials?

What a waste of public money, materials and human resources !!
The Maltese saying fits the bill perferctly: Traqqa il-pannu bil qara ahmar - Patching a green billiard cloth with red pumpkin.
And one has to have a pumpkin mentallity to even think that this exercise is worthwhile.
As Liam suggested - why not just cover the whole street/road with tarmac.
It would lessen the stress on the motorists and most probably it would be cheaper in the long run.
