I briefly knew Mr Vella from my contribution to the local council of Mskala and with deep sympathy I offer my condolences to his family in these hard times. From up there, he will still keep an eye on the local council.

Marsascala has lost one of the finest gentlemen who have ever set foot in this beautiful southern locality.
David Vella, amicably known as "Hans" for his habit of calling everyone "Hans" irrespective of the name, status or position, was not only a dedicated Councillor, but also an excellent businessman. He was, perhaps, the first restauranteur to import the concept of Oriental cousine in Malta and definately, he used to give "service with a smile".
David and myself served for at least two years in the same council (between 2004-2006) and he was a joy to work with. Destiny had it that following my election to Parliament in April 2008, he was elected to fill my own seat in the Local Council and he used to joke with me that he was walking on my footsteps.
The truth, of course, is perfectly the inverse. I was lucky and privileged to having had the possibility of working with David, of learning through his the values of sincerity, honesty and dedication.
David, you left Marsascala a much better place than when you found it. Hans, thank you for all the help and direction you've given me!
