Obituary
CASSAR. On January 8, at Mater Dei Hospital, LORENZO of Vittoriosa, aged 82, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Lucy, his children Joe and his wife Doreen, Maria and her husband Arthur, Katie and her husband Eric, Lawrence and his wife Rita and Manuel and his wife Roseanne, grandchildren and their respective spouses, great-grandchildren, his sisters, in-laws, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8 a.m. for St Lawrence parish church, Vittoriosa, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at St Lawrence Cemetery, Vittoriosa. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter Rosette wife of Joseph Depasquale Schranz, her grandchildren Andrea and his fiancée Denise, Cristina wife of Nicholas Bilocca and her great grandson Julian, her brother and sisters Edgar, Maud, Yole and Emily and their respective wife and husbands, nephews, nieces and friends - R.I.P. MARTIN. On December 30, at Frimley Park Hospital, Camberley, UK, Colonel FRANCIS XAVIER MARTIN, RAMC (Rtd.), passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Sheila, his dear son Paul and his wife Angela, his beloved grandchildren Hannah, Benjamin and Dominic, brothers and sisters Joe, Blanche and May, Doris, wife of Alexander Cachia Zammit, Terry Muscat Fenech, Lionel and his wife Connie, his in-laws Rose Martin and George Curmi, his nephews and nieces, relatives and friends. She leaves to mourn her great loss her son Hubert and his wife Joanne, née Borg Cardona, her daughter Diane, wife of James Sant Fournier and her beloved grandchildren Fabien and his girlfriend Petra Vernon, Solange, Faye, Tamsin and Suzanne, her brothers Dr Eddie Agius and his wife Anne and Emilio and his wife Mary, her sisters Olga and her husband Ferdinand Felice and Yvonne and her husband John Hall, residing in England, her brothers and sister-in-law, Ronald Pace Decesare, widower of Phyllis, Godfrey and his wife Marijke and Charmaine, wife of Joseph Meli, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for the Immaculate Conception parish church, Ta' l-Ibraġ, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Roadworks
Emergency surface repair works will be carried out along parts of Valley Road, Birkirkara today between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Although the road will remain open to two-way traffic, parking will not be permitted from the corner with Mount Carmel Street to that with P.P. Castagna Street.
Works will also be carried out along parts of Naxxar Road, Birkirkara tomorrow between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. As a result, the northbound carriageway will be closed to traffic between Windmill Street and the roundabout junction with Dun Karm Street. Traffic to Mosta will be diverted through Windmill Street to Balzan Valley Street.
On the same day, works will be carried out along parts of Naxxar Road, Lija between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. The southbound carriageway will be closed to traffic between the corner with St Michael Street to Iklin Street. Traffic to Birkirkara will be diverted through a service road and parking will not be permitted in the service road from the corner with St Michael Street to that with Iklin Street.
Similar works will also be carried out along parts of Testaferrata Street and Ta' Xbiex Front, Ta' Xbiex on Monday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The roads will remain open but no parking will be permitted.
Mdina cultural tour
The Malta Council for Culture and the Arts is organising a cultural tour to be held in Rabat and Mdina on January 18.
Transport will leave the Independence Monument, Floriana and the Nazarene Church, Sliema at 8.45 a.m.
Tickets costs €11 for adults and €8.50 for the elderly and children and are available until noon on January 14 from the council's offices at 230, Republic Street, Valletta.

Girls on the Move
Basketball and handball in the Girls on the Move programme will resume at the Cottonera Sports Complex on Thursdays and Fridays respectively, at their regular times, instead of at De La Salle College where works are still taking place.
Gozo NGOs
The Gozo Association of Non-Governmental Organisations will be holding the annual general meeting at its centre in Triq Il-Madonna Tar-Rummiena, Xewkija on January 16 at 5 p.m.

Slovak korunas may be exchanged for euros at the Central Bank until February 27, from Monday to Friday between 8.30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
