Clickair to operate Malta-Valencia route
Clickair shall be operating the Malta-Valencia-Malta route between July and September, Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Mario said today.
This route was previously operated by Ryanair which has now closed its base in Valencia, stopping all flights to and from this airport.

No big deal operating from July to Sep is really miserable to Malta for tourism considering that our summer is very hot with other countries such as UK!!

PLease note...Clickair is not bankrupt...Clickair formed part of the Iberia Group which is Spain's national airline...in the last quarter of 2008 it agreed a merger with Vueling another low cost airline based in Madrid Barajas airport...in such a market many airlines are merging to off load the high fuel costs...I dont agree so much with that comment of Ryanair's disappearance..this week their second bid to get Aer Lingus(Ireland's national carrier) was again refused..do you consider that its an airline in crisis?please note that there is a big difference in service between low cost and legacy...one needs to know his priorities...either its cheap to get there or get there paying more with many pluses..like complimentary food, more space in cabin etc etc...

Just a note to remind all that Ryanair has closed down its Valencia hub ( What a commitment) and is also threatening to close down its Hahn ( second frankfurt airport) ( What a long term commitment).
How can anyone build a long term strategy and rely on such an opportunistic airline like Ryanair.

Re :J.Borg, yes i remember that Clickair already operated and then presto gone like most other low cost airlines go to never never land, i honestly don't even see Ryan Air lasting with all the low cost gimmicks, same happend with Freddie laker (for all those people who are old enought to remember)and all the others. The only reliable carrier although its pricey is Air Malta our national airline.

we need to focus all year round tourism rather than on summer. hotels need to boost their occupancy BADLY. Ryanair would like to place a base in malta and would offer more than 14 new destinations placing two aircrafts here. that would boost tourists by over 400,00 and its an ALL YEAR ROUND SERVICE.
any comments?

Clickair already came and went once, like many other Low Cost Airlines. It has never been a big deal to sell in the peak period (Summer).. The challenge has always been to sell in the low/shoulder period. Malta tourism needs stakeholders with long term commitment.
