An injured Briton was airlifted from a survey vessel to Mater Dei Hospital by the Armed Forces of Malta this morning.

The vessel Skandy Inspector, which was eight nautical miles off San Dimitri Point in Gozo, reported the injured person on board at 9.30 a.m.

A rescue helicopter, piloted by Bdr Ruben Demicoli who was participating in his first rescue mission, was dispatched to the scene and the patient, 39-year-old Andrew York, was taken to Mater Dei. He is suffering from severe elbow swelling.
