The Hunters’ Federation (FKNK) has presented the Ornis Committee with a dossier on trapping which, it said, proposes solutions which should be satisfactory for all and would allow a continuation of this tradition.

Copies of the dossier had earlier been handed to the government and the opposition.

The FKNK said the dossier documented how trapping was legally practised in other EU countries by people using similar methods to those used in Malta for the same birds.

It said the BirdLife (Malta) representatives tried to obstruct the presentation of the dossier by objecting to the presence of the federation’s expert, but the presentation went ahead since there were no other objections.

The committee is due to continue discussing the dossier at another meeting later this month before making its recommendations to the Prime Minister, who has to decide on the future of trapping.

At that meeting the FKNK said it will present a dossier on spring hunting.

The federation said it was still waiting for an appointment with the MLP to discuss the two dossiers.
