Two men who were accused in court of stealing items from cars in Hal Farrug near Luqa on New Year's day were granted bail this morning after denying the charges.

Anton Pace, 19 and Adrian Azzopardi 20, both of Qormi, were held by the police after people living in the area reported that they had seen two people jumping off a wall at the private yard where the cars were parked.

The police found a number of the stolen items inside a car, and subsequent investigations led them to the men. The value of the stolen items was of no more than €232.

Mr Pace was also charged with making a false police report about theft from his own car. Mr Azzopardi was charged with relapsing.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano after taking into consideration that there is no fear of any witnesses being approached or of the men leaving the island, granted them bail.
