Bank staff clean up Buskett picnic spots
Over five cubic metres of waste was removed by a group of HSBC employees from picnic areas in Buskett as part of the global bank's Climate Change Partnership Programme.
The staff, who call themselves Climate Champions, have already participated in a two-week intensive field course in the UK, assisting scientists in environmental projects led by Earthwatch. The aim was to gain knowledge in good environmental practices, which they could then use and impart in the community for the improvement of the environment.
The programme is funded by the HSBC Group to the tune of $100 million over five years.
Equal to five bring-in sites, the waste collected in Buskett consisted mostly of plastic and large oil drums.
Climate Change coordinator Martin Scicluna said: "While the clean-up exercise served to restore the areas to their natural pristine environment, it is very disappointing to note that the public can be so insensitive to the beauty of this woodland. If people went to Buskett to enjoy the environment, the least one can do is to leave the place clean".

Please read my post carefully.
The article states in one section:
the global bank's Climate Change Partnership Programme!!!!! And then goes on to call the staff whom participated in this nobel action, climate champions.
If they where climate champions and HSBC where serious about there climate change programme then HSBC would work towards with partners global partners a change in the global monetery system. A system that would not charge interest on loans and a system where money was not issued as a debt and this goes for all banks.
Just to inform you that HSBC employees organise these activities outside of their working times, hence they're doing it voluntarily. If only other work places organise these types of activities! Perhaps you want to encourage your employer so you'll be a competitor. If you want to criticise the bank itself, then do write in the 'letters' section as what you have said has nothing to do with the activity organised.
They work for a bank that operates a banking system that works on a failed assumption that you can have infinite growth on a finite planet.
They work in a financial system that charges interest on loans and also compound interest,
This means, that to pay back the interest + principle you have to use up twice the finite resources just to pay them interest.
Climate Change Partnership Programme? The bank is fueling climate change and at the same time green washing, the only thing HSBC are interested in is making money money money!!!
