As part of its Christmas and end-of-term celebrations, the Table Tennis Nursery (TTN) staged a tournament for the parents of its young members.

This time, it was the youngsters who cheered, supported and offered tips to their parents.

After a whole hour of competition, Anthony Grima and Edwin Scerri earned the right to contest the final. Grima prevailed 2-1.

"Our Nursery managed to bridge the gap between active kids and their parents," David Pace, the organiser of TTN, said in a statement.

"This tournament allowed parents to interact with each other, be active, exercise and enjoy some quality time with their children. It was a win-win situation for everyone and we intend to make this tournament a fixture in our yearly calendar."

2008 was a positive year for TTN. Apart from training sessions, the TTN's programme contained fun activities, competitions, talks and seminars. Encouraging results were obtained by Jessica Pace and Michaela Scerri, and in the boys' competitions, Daniel Said and Alberto Cachia showed marked progress.

In the mini-cadets sector (10 years and under), Sorin Nicodimescu, Luke Zammit, Sacha Pace, Elena Pocock and Yanic Dobler are to be praised for their dedication and willingness to learn under the guidance of coach David Read.

"In 2009, TTN will continue to promote table tennis among youngsters, especially those aged between seven and 14," Pace added. "The Nursery board has also made arrangements to promote the sport in schools through extra curricular programmes which will make coaching easily accessible to students."
