Spurs and Portsmouth agree fee for Defoe

England striker Jermain Defoe appears set to return to Tottenham Hotspur after his former club agreed a transfer fee with Portsmouth today.

In a brief statement on their website (www.portsmouthfc.co.uk), the south coast club said that a fee had been agreed for the player who has scored 17 goals in 36 appearances since joining from Spurs for 7.5 million pounds ($10.93 million) a year ago.

If the transfer goes ahead, it would be the third time that Defoe had played under Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, who took him to Portsmouth last season having been his boss at West Ham United, where the 26-year-old began his professional career.
