Obituary
ATTARD. On January 3, at Villa Messina, Rabat, LUIGINA, née Gazzoli, of Brescia, Italy, aged 82, passed away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her son George and his wife Petrea and their sons William and Thomas, residing in England, her brothers, sisters and their spouses, numerous nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Villa Messina tomorrow at 2 p.m. for Fleur-de-Lys parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Mosta cemetery.
BONAVIA. On January 5, at St James Capua Hospital, Sliema, JOHN HENRY (ex-proprietor, Bonavia Offset Printers), aged 92, widower of Alexandra, née Borg Cardona, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved children Henry, Emily and her husband Joseph Galea, Tony and his wife Mary, Theresa and her husband Emmanuel Buttigieg, Rosalie and her husband Anton Cassar and John, his grandchildren Karen and her husband Sean Sullivan, Katya and her husband Kevin Sammut, Christina, Timothy, Neville, Julian, Claude, Mark, Joseph and Matthew, all his great-grandchildren, his sister Carmelina, wife of Joseph Fenech, his brother Joseph and his wife Josephine, in-laws and numerous relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St James Capua Hospital tomorrow for the Carmelite parish church, Balluta, St Julians, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
CALLEJA. On January 1, in Australia, ANTHONY, passed away peacefully, aged 76. He is mourned by his wife Grace, his sons David, John and Adrian, his brothers, Fr Alfred Calleja, OFM Conv., Donald and Louis, his sister Miriam, in-laws, grandchildren, relatives and friends. A Mass for the repose of his soul will be said tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. at the Capuchin Friary, Floriana. The attendance of relatives and friends is greatly appreciated.
CAMILLERI. On January 4, PIO, aged 82, passed away peacefully at his residence, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved and devoted wife Ivy, née Mifsud, his children Anouk and her husband Paul Ellul Sullivan, Georgette and her husband Louis Maistre, Josef and his wife Anita, Michel, and Victoire and her husband Adrian Manfrè, his grandchildren Vibeke and her husband David Pace, Gaston and his girlfriend Gillian, Fae and her husband Frank Borg, Greta and her boyfriend Daniel, and Tyron, his in-laws, Thérèse, widow of his brother Antoine, Roy and Joan Mifsud, Mae and Tony Vella residing in Canada, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves his residence today at 2.15 p.m. for Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
HAMMOND. On December 14, WILLIAM of Attard, aged 97, passed away peacefully. He leaves to mourn his loss his dear and dedicated wife Vincenza, daughter-in-law Toine, grandchildren Gaby, Mark and Peter, his brothers and sister and many relatives and friends in Malta and the UK. Mass will be celebrated on January 8 at 7.45 a.m. at St Mary's parish church, Attard. He will be cremated in England on January 14. Donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
MICALLEF. On January 4, at Mater Dei Hospital, RENALD, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his daughter Simona and her husband Anthony, his son Colin and his wife Judith, his grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Keith and Nicola, his brothers Joe and his wife Nanette, Maurice and his wife Carmelina and his sister-in-law Doris, in-laws, relatives and many friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 1.30 p.m. for the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery chapel where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment. Donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, or to The Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, will be greatly appreciated.
VELLA. On January 4, at St Vincent de Paul residence, MARIA CARMELA (Lina) of Sliema, ex-Sliema primary school teacher, aged 88, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother-in-law Jean Cauchi and his wife Frida, her nephews and nieces, Noel, Jean Pierre, Maria (Sr Magdalene), Hans, Gerda and Dirk, their respective spouses, grand nephews and nieces, cousins, co-members of the Secular Institute of St Angela Merici, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence today at 2 p.m. for St Gregory parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to St Rita Home (Ursuline Sisters), Tarxien, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Crib competition
Eugenio Borg placed first in the mechanised crib category of the National Crib Competition. Christopher Calleja placed second.
Emanuel Axiaq has placed first in the big static crib category, followed by Franklyn Pace and Alex Powell.
Joey Falzon placed first in the small crib category, Mario Camilleri second and Carmelo Sammut third.
A total of 45 cribs were submitted.
Admission to Church schools
Application forms for admission to Church schools will be available at the Archbishop's Curia in Floriana between Monday and January 14 during office hours.
Application forms for entry to kindergarten may be collected on Monday. Those for kindergarten two may be collected on January 13 and those for year one on January 14.
