Many times, in our fast moving world, we tend to forget who we really are…we end up being caught in a routine, day after day that we end up simply existing rather than living. In the last decade, the western world has imported practices from the Far East such as yoga; tai chi and martial arts among others which promote and suggest a healthier psychological and physical state, thus, enabling the human person to enjoy a better life.

Although such practices are also found on our island, it seems like there is a space for more awareness about the benefits of such practices. Besides the fact that such practices enable one to enjoy a better lifestyle, they also help one to protect himself. Unfortunately, each and every one of us can find himself in a dangerous situation where either one’s family or one’s self is under threat. Incidents happen at any time and at any place being at one’s own house, on the roads or at places of entertainment. The only difference between a taught person and another is that the former will know how to react in awkward situations while the other will not.

Practices related with self-defence have been ongoing for a number of years in Malta. Locally, the number of martial arts schools has increased numerously becoming ever more proficient and competent, one of which is the Malta Self-Defence Academy, its aim being to show how one can defend himself without the need of high amount of training. Although the academy is still in its initial stages it carries with it years of experience and professional training.

Currently, the Malta Self-Defence Academy is welcoming applications for interested students to enrol in the basic self‐defence course which starts this month. The course is spread over 14 weeks, one-hourly session every week and is open for everyone over 16 years of age.

More information about the course can be obtained by phone on 99421649 or 99841134 or by e-mail:info@maltaselfdefenceacademy.com
