The President's oranges
With reference to the letter entitled San Anton Garden's Wasted Oranges from John Richard Ivens of Marsascala, (December 31), please note that the San Anton Public Gardens do not fall under the responsibility of the Office of The President. It is still customary for the President of Malta to distribute oranges from the San Anton Palace Gardens (the private gardens) as has been done in the past years.

The gardens belong to those who are living in them. and if anyone wants an orange he is free to go to Buskett or to Dante's garden in Floriana or in the Rabat ditches where there are many orange trees and eat to his heart's delight.

Maria Zammit has hit the nail on the head. What we all want to know is who is responsible for San Anton Public Gardens. Further, why do those oranges appear to be untouchable, and consequently, allowed to go to waste?
How shocking, shameful and sad.
Being a doctor and a senior citizen, I might consider joining S. Bugeja tomorrow, picking some bags of oranges and giving them to Hospital patients and to Senior Citizen Homes.

I always wondered where all the oranges grown in State lands (such as Mdina, Verdala, Buskett, etc ...) end up. I was once told that they were given out to State-funded institutions such as hospitals, senior citizens' homes, institutes, etc ....

Since the Director General (Information etc...) gave a reply, how come it states who is not responsible for the gardens and not who is and why oranges are wasted?!!
Can we stop playing word games when the matter is quiet simple and straightforward. And still oranges drop off trees as we argue about this. What incompetence!

The gardens of San Anton are in no sense private, they belong to the people. If anything the produce should be given freely to the people who pay dearly for the three Palaces the President (whoever that may be) occupies.

Allright, so who do the gardens belong to? they must be the property of someone because if they are not, tomorrow I shall go in my car and fill a couple of bags with the fruit. That is one sure way of finding who the owners are! can mr. Bugelli inform us who the actual owners are so that frurther correpondence is addressed to them/him/her?
