Superior Corito outpunches Jennings

A boxing tournament, organised by John Essex, of the Malta Boxing Board of Control, was held recently at the Ta' Qali pavilion.

The event featured boxers from Malta, Scotland and England with the main fight on the card being that between Malta heavyweight champion Billy Corito and English boxer John Jennings.

Corito went on the offensive right from the first round, landing a flurry of powerful punches that clearly hurt the English boxer.

In the second round, Corito kept up his aggressive approach and Jennings soon signalled to the referee that he was pulling out, thus awarding victory to the Maltese boxer. Corito has now won all three fights he has contested so far.

In the other fights, Tommy Forsythe knocked out Mark Kent while Rodney Mercieca and Daniel Borg fought out a draw. The other three fights were decided on points with Alan Chetcuti beating George Onslow, Ryan Kerr defeating Scott Clist and Steve Aquilina having the better of Nick Blackwell.
