Dar tal-Providenza marathon collects more than €500,000
More than €500,000 were collected in a 15-hour charity marathon yesterday, organised by RTK radio, with the collaboration of APS Bank.
This marathon was held during an open day at the home and included an auction of sports memorabilia, including signed football t-shirts and a replica of the Champions League cup.
The home was opened in 1965 by Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi to improve the quality of life of people with physical and mental impairments.
It runs at €12,000 a day and is fully dependent on donations from the public to offer its services. It currently, it cares for 100 residents and has 220 workers.

Why do we Maltese have to argue about EVERYTHING? Why do we have to look for the worm in every apple? This is a time to count blessings. Let's just leave it at that!

Once again this is proof of the great generosity of the Maltese in helping fellow brothers in need. And once again it goes to show that the financial plight of the Maltese is not bad as those usual whiners and moaners portray. In a couple of days the Maltese people besides spending for their usual Christmas and New Year's Eve festivities could forked out 102,000,000 Euros ( appr) in donations. Well done.

@Mr/Ms I Galea
How can you insinuate that the PN gets its contributions from the few who give a lot! What about the thousands who pack the PN mass meetings? According to you, these are the wealthy few who contribute the large donations! Keep dreaming, maybe one day your dreams will come true!

What does politics have to do with all this........ or does it?
The fact is that if it was not for Dar tal-Providenza the 'angels' resident there would finish up in Mount Carmel hospital or Saint Vincent de Paul Residence. No government , past or present, ever created institutions to particularly address the needs of these citizens.
As for l-Istrina, may someone remind me when was it last that id-Dar Tal-Providenza was in the list of the NGO's benefiting from the money gathered?
Well done people.Keep Dar tal-Providenza and it's residents close to your heart otherwise God only knows what would happen if you don't.

P.Ciantar, R. Farrugia
I did not say that they don't, but that they have more faith and believe in giving direct to Dar tal-Providenza than to Strina.
Moreover, there were no gifts in the Dar tal-Providenza marathon, unlike Strina lottery where many openly say that they donate something just to try their luck in winning something.
R. Farrugia
As for the PL receiving the least amount, since YOU have introduced politics, the PL receives small donations from many, unlike the PN which receives large donations from the wealthy few, especially friends and friends of friends whose backs have been scratched. Ever heard of scratch my back and I scratch yours?

Mr.I.Galea The RTK marathon and l-Istrina are both very worthy causes and the Maltese and Gozitans contributed in such a big way that both organisations declared that they were very happy with the sums of money collected! This despite the doom and gloom that certain people try to instill in our people. One thing is for sure and this is that it was the PL that received the smallest sum throughout the festive collections. This shows that it is the least popular on our Islands. Despite the tsunami that the new leader tried to impress everyone with!

Once again the generosity of the Maltese for Malta's favourite charity was shown in abundance yesterday. The figure is even better than last year's €460,000 but it still only covers the Home's current expenses for a month and a half. Well done to all those who contributed.

The STRINA organizers should take notice of this event and understand the real meaning of genuine and sincere contributions. Prosit to all the Maltese who contributed to this success.

Congratulations.
This also shows that the people have much more faith in this institution than in Strina!

Prosit to all those who contributed for such a good cause - without expecting anything back. This is what I call genuine contribution.
