Beckham grabs limelight in Dubai

Ancelotti backs Milan to revive Serie A title challenge

David Beckham is dominating the limelight in Dubai amid rumours that his return to LA Galaxy may not be as clear-cut as first thought.

Milan's training camp over the winter break has turned the spotlight on Beckham with the England midfielder photographed and followed closely by the media who have also devoted significant attention to his new boots.

Along with the usual marks representing the names of his three children, they also featured the Milan club symbol and on the right boot the Italian flag with the English flag on the left.

This marks a new development in Beckham's career and the Corriere dello Sport newspaper interpreted it as a clear sign that his March 9 return to LA Galaxy is not set in stone.

The newspaper claimed that there is a secret clause in his contract allowing him to rescind with the MLS side whenever he wants, paving the way for a permanent switch to San Siro.

Meanwhile, Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti is still upbeat about his team's chances of challenging champions Inter for the title this term.

Milan currently lie third in the table, nine points behind Inter and three behind Juventus but Ancelotti expects his players to turn up the heat on Inter in the second half of the season.

Improvement

"In the second part of the season, we will have to improve our fitness as well as the level of our game, especially in defence," Ancelotti told reporters.

"We still believe in the scudetto and we are sure we can reach Inter."

Ancelotti also hopes that the newly-arrived Beckham will give his side a lift.

"In my opinion he is an important player who can give something to the club," Ancelotti said.

"He is a versatile footballer who can play in three different positions and has already shown his availability to the team".

Milan's training camp in Dubai runs until next Tuesday.
