Malta Enterprise recently organised the participation of a number of Maltese companies at the leading event in the Gulf region for building materials, interiors and construction related goods and services, The Big 5 Show, held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, officially opened the Big 5 Show in the presence of several dignitaries from the United Arab Emirates, Gulf countries and represented national countries. This year's edition has attracted over 2,800 companies from 52 countries with 30 national pavilions. Visitors to the Big 5 Show can source from an unparalleled array of products and services from all sectors of the building, construction and civil engineering industry.
Simon Mellor, Vice-President Construction, DMG World Media Dubai Ltd, organisers of the event, stated that at a time when the world is holding its breath and expecting a global recession, the countries of the Middle East seem, for now at least, able to avoid a similar major downturn. The Big 5 Show is the region's ideal stepping stone into these markets.
The Maltese companies at the show exhibited a range of products related to the building materials and interiors sectors such as wall and picture frames, whirlpool baths and fittings, domestic and industrial brushes and architectural and civil engineering services.
During a visit to the stands on the Malta pavilion, Sheikh Maktoum, in the presence of Anthony Tabone, Consul General of Malta in Dubai and Dennis Vella, co-ordinator of the Malta Pavilion, expressed his satisfaction for the regular presence of Malta at the Big 5 Show and for the relative success in the Gulf markets by some Maltese companies.
The participation by the Maltese companies was promoted in the media by articles in the Gulf Construction Magazine and the Big 5 Show newsletter.
