No reform without human resources - MUT

No reform can be implemented without human resources, the Malta Union of Teachers reminded the government yesterday.

The MUT hit out at education authorities for not having called for applications from Learning Support Assistants, despite graduates having finished from their university course months ago.

The MUT said that it has written to the authorities on various occasions regarding the issue but has received no answer to date.

It is expecting that the much-needed call for applications will be released "as soon as possible to ensure that justice is done among those who invested in improving their qualifications".

The MUT's council said it was disappointed that, despite the agreement reached in July 2007, there were "exaggerated delays" in calling for applications to fill posts in various teaching grades essential to the functioning of the educational system, especially in the light of the reforms being undertaken.

It reminded the authorities that no reform can be implemented without all the necessary resources, in particular human resources.
